SLSA Awards of Excellence will be held at The Westin Hotel, Martin Place, Sydney. There will be over 250 in attendance at Surf Life Saving Australia’s prestigious SLSA Awards of Excellence to celebrate and acknowledge the contribution of our members and the movement during the 2011/12 season. All nominees as well as winners for the 9 recognition awards will be recognised on the evening, including the Club, Volunteer and Lifesaver of the Year. There will be new inductees into the SLSA Hall of Fame, newly appointed Life Members, as well as those honoured for going beyond the call of duty in the surf. Registration will be held at the Somerton Surf Club upstairs in the Bistro from 10.00 a.m. to 1.00 p.m. Saturday 13th October.  New members welcome – club members will be on hand to answer all your queries about our junior (nipper) program, Patrols, Awards, Proficiencies and social membership.  PLEASE NOTE THAT IT IS ALSO 1ST DAY OF PATROLS; so come ready to be vigilant. SLSSA held their annual Awards of Excellence on Sunday 5th August at a luncheon held at Port Noarlunga SLSC. Somerton SLSC had nominated a number of members for various awards. It is with pride that Mel Millsteed was the worthy recipient of SLSSA Volunteer of the Year Award. Unfortunately, Mel was unable to attend the Awards of Excellence function due to illness but President, Steve Miller, gratefully accepted the award on her belhalf. City to Somerton Club Event We’ve all seen a glimpse of good weather these past few weeks (rain aside) as the days are becoming longer and warmer. With Spring only a fortnight away, it’s time to rid ourselves of the winter blues and start building momentum for what will be another great season of surf. 2012 YOUTH DEVELOPMENT CAMP FOR SLSSA U15 – U17 MEMBERS

The 2012 SLSSA Youth Development Camp will be held in the Flinders Ranges in the 2nd week of the school holidays from Tuesday the 10th to Friday 13th July. Our campsite for 3 nights will be at Edeowie Station and we will be coordinating activities around its’ beautiful surrounds including touring and trekking throughout Wilpena Pound. Participants will have the desire to learn more about themselves and other peers and develop your skills and knowledge in surf life saving, leadership and working as a team. Participants will hold one or more of the following SLSA awards – Bronze Medallion, Senior First Aid Certificate or Surf Rescue Certificate.
